Switch Regional Competition — Americas

Presented by the AAPL Educational Foundation, Inc. and NAPE

$40,000 in prize money. Networking with 8,000 professionals at the industry's biggest stage.

You're not writing a paper for a grade. You're building a real energy case, judged by real professionals, with the top 3 teams presenting it on the floor at the 2027 NAPE Summit.

The Switch Regional Competition – Americas is a new case competition for university students across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Your team will tackle a real energy scenario to compete for $40,000 in prizes. The top 3 finishers will present their final case at NAPE in the Career Development Hub in front of the dealmakers who impact this industry. You will build the kind of network that most other students spend years chasing.

Why this case is different

The content of the case is energy source agnostic — oil and gas, renewables, nuclear, critical minerals and emerging areas all have a seat at the table. No resource has an advantage in the scenario. The case is reduced and ultra-focused for an efficient timeline to give all students the proper time to do their best work. And you don't need an energy or engineering degree to compete. You don’t need an energy major or minor to compete. All majors are welcome — business, finance, policy, geosciences, engineering, communications, and beyond.

How it works

  • Build a team of four, with at least two undergrads on the roster — any major
  • Work the case online, on your own schedule, through Switch's Grid platform
  • Compete through rounds that run from November through January
  • Top three teams are named finalists — and every finalist team is invited to present live at the NAPE Summit Career Hub in February. You will also enjoy access to all events and connections included in The NAPE Experience pass.

What's on the line

Place Prize
1st $20,000
2nd $12,500
3rd $7,500
Total $40,000

That's $40,000 in prize money, funded by the AAPL Educational Foundation, paid directly to student winners.

The stage you're competing for

NAPE isn't a career fair. It's where 8,000+ energy professionals from major companies like Chevron, Shell and Exxon come to close deals, network and identify new talent. That's the kind of line on a resume you don't get from a group project.
